The first Precision Tuning Techniques training video has been one of my best-sellers ever but there were still many more tuning subjects yet to cover in depth. Now in production, Precision Tuning Techniques Volume 2 will cover a wide variety of vital tuning techniques and protocols that will help you dial in any type of glider you might be flying.
It is recommended that you buy and view the first volume as this new program builds on the basic skills taught in that video. You can order the first video here or you can order both Precision Tuning volumes together at a big discount here.
In the first video section I show you some radio programming tricks that will help you accurately set pitch trim for each flight mode as trimming a slope or thermal glider to set speed and reduce pilot work load is a vital skill required for best flight performance.
As the center of gravity is one of the most important tuning parameters, you'll learn more about how CG effects flight and how to quickly estimate a wing's CG range and potential pitch stability margin. As part of this section I'll show you how to use Marcus Mueller's CG Calc program to calculate the CG of any glider type and determine the useable CG range and potential static margin based on the glider's moments and wing design.
Electronic CG scales are the hot new tool for quickly measuring CG location but are they really worth the high cost? I teach you how they work and demonstrate some the advantages and disadvantages of these high-tech CG scales. Do they work better than just balancing on your fingers?
One of the sections cut from the first video was the tuning of wingeron and pitcheron gliders. They have particular tuning requirements and though not everyone flies these unique slopers, you'll find the set up and decalage requirements fascinating and educational.
Many older vintage gliders tuning set up could be greatly improved with a few simple changes and you'll learn a methodology for evaluating CG and decalage and possible corrections. I recently restored a 1975 Hobie Hawk and was curious about the unusual rigging and CG specifications the manual suggests and set out to investigate and re-tune the airframe to modern performance standards. I teach you how I applied my tuning techniques shown in my previous tuning tutorials to correct and then verify by flight testing the tuning and rigging changes.
After the first Precision Tuning video was released, I got a lot of really good and detailed questions about specific tuning challenges and aerodynamics so the last part of the video will be spent answering those questions and offering solutions. This just may be the best part of the new video!
There will be additional tutorials in Volume 2 but the content has not been finalized yet. This web page will be updated as the release date nears and a pre-view teaser video is coming.
Here's a partial list of tutorials to scheduled be included in the Precision Tuning Techniques training video:
• Advanced Trimming • Calculating Static Margin & CG Of Any Glider • CG Range Estimations • Electronic CG Scales • Tuning Wingeron & Pitcheron Models • Re-Tuning Vintage Gliders • Tuning Questions Answered • Wash-Out Measuring • Flight Testing/Trouble Shooting • And More
